working in customer service sucks. Just straightening the merchandise for macy's was a thousand times better than working a register and having to worry about tricking at least one customer per day into getting a mervyns credit card. Now if someone comes to me and asks for one, i'll be happy to give them one. But I downright refuse to talk a customer into it. My boss caught me not really asking the customers if they wanted a mervyns card and she told me that if i don't open at least one account a day the company won't schedule me as much. I tried to explain to her that i know how much people hate being asked forcedly for one and she pretty much didn't care. I've been asking people more now, but I don't insist. If she asks me to try harder to talk them into it, I'm quitting. I refuse to do it.
I'd so rather be working on my novel than working there, but I need money for next school year.
Thats just how things go, i guess.
is weird.
We spent over two hours learning how to use a register, and then we were ushered out to our respective departments and began ringing up customers. Ahhhh! I didn't feel at all confident with what I had just learned. But for the most part I did alright, there was only a few things I couldn't figure out how to do. One was doing a return/exchange, the other was letting the person pay in two different ways for the same tab. (like cash for some and credit for the rest)
I bet it will just take some practice. I just hope I don't get any pissed off customer and I get scared.
So what else? Ah, yes. We finally called verizon, yesterday morning around ten am, and they told us the problem had been resolved as of 8 am that morning. So I got online to check. 15 minutes went by, no disconnect. YAY! half an hour went by. 45 minutes. at an hour it died. So I thought, alright, maybe that was just a fluke. But I had to go to work. Upon returning I looked at irc logs and discovered it would die every two hours. Though that still sucks, it's a hell of a lot better than every 15 minutes.
yep.
I guess that's about all for now.
Oh, right. Rendering terragen on the G5 is soooooo infinitely much faster than on my laptop. Oh yes. 1200x600 in one and a half minutes? (note: thats a render with no water.) I think that's pretty good! :D
You all have a lovely week.
First of all, the 2wire people gave up and told me to call verizon. Nothing else has happened yet on that.
Now to get into things. So Brian came over this weekend a little last notice. I was extremely happy to say the least. Shortly after he came, my family decided we'd go to the mall. So we did, and being the mac people we are, ended up being in the Apple store. and being the insane person my dad is, He got a Powermac G5. dual 2 GHz processors, 1.5 gigs of ram, and I don't know about you but isn't a 160 GB hard drive massive? and that was the smallest one! Also, being the insane person he is, he also got the 20 inch cinema display. Actually, I should specify--I got the computer and display and ipod mini and extra ram, et cetera, because I am the student and get a discount on everything. Of course I got it with his money and it's his. :D Strangely enough, I saved him over 400 dollars, not counting the free ipod my sister got out of the deal (I'm perfectly happy with my ipod and 4 gigs isn't enough for all my music) So all in all it's insane, but at least we planned ahead? I dunno. What I do know is that the machine and display are fucking beautiful and it's so blazingly fast, omg. Halo looks pretty good on it!!! Anyway, Brian and I were more excited about it than my dad was, I think. And dont think he's completely splurging--he wants to get back into music composition (he likeses protools) and his titanium powerbook is starting to give him major problems. I'm happy for him, but I have to say it--the price of that computer would have paid for one quarter of my housing costs! Heh.
So today brian and I went swimming and that was very nice since it was about 100 F here.
Oh, right. I started my job at Mervyn's yesterday. I spent seven hours straightening clothes all over the store. It's a soothing process though. My actual job will be a cash register position, they just had us fold clothes and straighten pillows to get acquainted with the store. Good idea if you ask me.
Anyway, i guess that'll be it for now. I think I'm gonna have to go download terragen and see how fast it renders on the G5 *squee!*
So I've been doing various non-internet stuff like working on my novel(it's 105 pages now!!) and entertaining company and playing with the puppy. This has kept me from dealing with the fact that my connection dies every fifteen minutes, like mentioned earlier. But I finally got around to dealing with it to a degree yesterday. I emailed the people who make my modem and told them about it. I got a reply this morning that sometimes the software will malfunction, and they instructed me how to reset it to factory settings. I did so. It didn't solve the problem. So I told them so, and now I wait for a response. Grr.
And for the record, pure, unsweetened cranberry juice is the most disgusting stuff ever.
My cousins have been over all week! wheefun. We have watched multitudes of movies and swam in the pool and gone to the mall and have had much fun.
Last saturday I met brian down in santa cruz for a woodie car show. That was great. We went to the beach and on the big rollercoaster on the boardwalk and I got horribly sunburned. :)
At the mall I got my ears pierced(second in each). It didn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would.
And though we've been too preoccupied to think about trying to fix the internet, I *did* get a job. A little temp thing at mervyns, but a job nonetheless.
That's it for right now. Hope you all are having great summers.
