Seatbelts

I had a random thought about Star Trek the other day, and I thought I'd share it.

Why don't they have seatbelts on any of the ships? It seems like, at least once, someone would say, "Hey, when we're getting attacked, isn't it kind of uncomfortable to be thrown around the ship? Maybe if we strapped ourselves in, there would be less injuries, and we wouldn't be thrown away from our consoles while trying to take evasive action."

Apparently none of the engineers or ship designers ever thought of that. I don't understand why, though. It seems so obvious.

keep thinking about it.

the ship is in space. there is no gravity. the ship's gravity is artificial. people inside the ship shouldn't feel it bouncing around at all (because whatever produces the gravity bounces around the exact same amount).

oh well.
