Okay, since I seem to be in a hyper typing mood right now, I'll recap anything and everything that I deem important to you that's happened in my life since... oh god who cares. It'll be a long story, but to make a long story short, let's just make it short.
gorillaz clip downlaodThis of course, is all my little scheme to remember, and of course, remember the moto of this blog. We here at DyStudios would like you to remember that we here give a damn about me, and we've been giving a damn since two thousand and four. This is also a warning, a warning that says that this is 100% of an average teenager's blog post. It includes some rants and raves of some dorky teen, such as can't going to see a band, love life troubles, guitar, and why the SNES owns all other gaming platforms ever. If you are scared of regular blogging, or have small children nearby, it is advised to take care reading this. So let the stories be told...
I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this, but I picked up guitar some time ago. Considering it's only been a year since I started playing, and I only had one semester of a rather lacking and uninteresting guitar beginners' course, I've been able to learn a lot about the instrument in a really short time. In terms of skill, I don't think I'm too bad if I say so myself. It's just, most of my repertoire consists of Rush songs (not a bad thing). I have absolutely no knowledge of music theory, really. So it may be a problem in the long run... But in that long run I've also been thinking about picking up bass guitar, just because it's quite similar to play like guitar, but you focus on rhythm a lot more. This appeals to me quite a bit, because I've always liked to be the behind-the-scenes person, the underlying force. I would only really play bass in a band, because it's so hard to get in a band knowing only how to play one instrument. I would still continue playing guitar, which I've found a knack for, and perhaps actually learn how to play guitar properly by receiving proper bass lessons. It's possible.
And besides, I'm already building up a collection of guitars. I have 4 as of now; two electrics, one acoustic, and one classical. I'll do this chronologically, because that's what I'm thinking about this moment. My first guitar is a Fender Squier Stratocaster in metallic blue. It's got a 3 single-coil pickup configuration, so it's got that Strat sound, however, the electronics suck and aren't grounded properly at all. It plays extremely well, and doesn't sound too bad through an amp. My second guitar is a Taylor Big Baby. It's of Taylor's cheaper Baby line, something like 27/28 regular guitar scale, but god. It's definitely the best sounding of my guitars, has nice action and very good body. Keeper for sure.
My third and most expensive guitar to date has been a Paul Reed Smith Student Edition Standard. It's got a camouflage finish which I can go either way about, and no-name 'PRS' hardware, but I'm going to replace the non-locking tuners with Planet Waves locking ones, get a Dunlop Dual Design Straplok, and hopefully get some *real* PRS pickups; particularly the HFS and Vintage Bass combo. It, like the Big Baby and Squier, is the lower end tier of those luthier's catalogs. But, since those three companies are some of the best names in the business, they're quite good. The last guitar I got was just some impulse buy that I wanted. I 'needed' a classical guitar, so I got a little no-name cheapie that was also acoustic/electric. Nothing fancy about it than that. Hopefully I'm done for this year in terms of my guitar buying spree. I bought 4 instruments in one year, and that kinda needs to stop. Just to complete the set up, I've got a Marshall AVT 20w amplifier that my dad's friend Jack who is a guitar guru gave me, which was really cool of him. He let me borrow it in the beginning to use my Strat, and I became addicted to the hard, overdriven gain sound. He permanently gave it to me last year for Christmas, because he just recently acquired a Marshall MG100HDFX and a Marshall all-tube 50w something stack. Sure, I'm envious, but I don't really know where I'd be without his old amp.
One cool thing that's happened recently has been the purchase of a Boss GT-8, a multieffects processor for guitar. In case that all wizzed by your head, it's a box that goes on the floor which you can replicate the sounds of pretty much every popular and sought after amplifier and guitar effect ever. So far, I think I could spend years using this to it's full potential. Or maybe 4 years in a college course, either way.
