Just a wrap-up of everything pertaining to the Forums:
The only thing I can suggest doing is keep checking back here at my blog for news about the Forums. If my fix works (as far as restoring the deleted accounts), I'll be keeping the forums down for a little while longer so that, when I open the forums back up, you shouldn't notice much of anything being out of place.
There will still be a bit of work as far as restoring everyone's permissions (user groups they belonged to, boards they moderated, etc), but all in all, it should be relatively painless for the user. A pain in the ass for me, but for the user it should be fine. :)
Posted by Eric at December 5, 2004 06:11 PMJust an FYI: here's my schedule for the week:
Monday: I have off, specifically so I can play KOTOR2. I'll try to do some forum work, but god dammit, I've earned some time to have fun. My car will be going into the shop Tuesday morning, so I won't be at my place Monday night.
Tuesday & Wednesday: in the evenings, I'll be working on the forums, provided I have a car.
Thursday & Friday: I have evening performances. No work.
Saturday: Evening performance, but I'll be doing stuff (if there's anything left to do) during the day.
Posted by: EVula at December 5, 2004 06:31 PMdude, i'll loan you a car (truck - be a man), just don't let the script kiddies that read the instructions on how to hack at the phpBB site beat you down, put the forums back now.
Posted by: Sterling Peoples at December 7, 2004 08:37 PMFuck the script kiddies, I couldn't care less about whether they think they've got me beat or not; I've broken my neck enough times for the Empire, I'm not about to do it again. :P
Posted by: EVula at December 8, 2004 11:11 AMHi Evula,
I am truly appalled at the shit in this world. Sorry to hear you're digging the same hole again in soft ground.
All the very best to you and yours.
Warmest regards always,
Star Gazer
Good luck! That's all I guess.
Posted by: DeadBeat at December 8, 2004 06:50 PMI think I was the about the first person to see that the forums had been hacked. I was browsing the forums and I left for about 5 minutes to check something and when I came back the forums were offline.
Really sorry to hear about all that crummy news Evula. :(

Posted by: Zuljin at December 13, 2004 11:46 AMIf I knew where this hacker lived, I would find his house and commit various and creative acts of vandalism upon it.
Posted by: Moo at December 13, 2004 02:29 PMNot if I got there first, Moo. ;)

Don't bother talking bad about him, that'll only make him happier. Evula, if you need anything just let me or mostly any of us know.
Posted by: kc3 at December 19, 2004 05:02 PMOh, and I forgot, I'd suggest you get the latest version of phpBB. The one you had was kind of old.
Posted by: kc3 at December 19, 2004 05:03 PMUpdate phpBB? Good idea, I hadn't thought of that. :P

Posted by: hithere at December 22, 2004 03:45 PMHey, I found something you might find usefull. There's been a worm going around throught bots to deface phpBB message boards. Many other forums got defaced. Check out http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=249010 to see how to fix it.
Posted by: kc3 at December 25, 2004 07:39 PMIt seems like this is a temporary forum for us to post on until the other ones come back, doesn't it... well I don't think we mind but what about EVula, does this bother you? I would like to post because I've been trying to get on the forums for ages but I memorized the address so I would just type in forums.evula.com/login.php and it would say the page couldn't be displayed. Finally I got annoyed enough to just try the forums and that's when I found this. I feel like a doink now tho, not trying another link...
Posted by: Special_Rabbit at January 2, 2005 09:20 PMEVula,
Sorry about the forums. I just got a wild hair, decided to look them up, (OK, I wanted to know how to start Galvenic Pirates...), and...they were gone.
The hacker will get his (or hers) eventually. mj

Tru.dat, thats exactly how it works. You know that they would get really bored if you just kept restoring the forums, and not commenting on it? They (be it a he or she) will stop

I disagree.
Blake said 'to generalize is to be an idiot'. Don't be an idiot ;)
"hacker n.
[originally, someone who makes furniture with an axe] 1. A person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and how to stretch their capabilities, as opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the minimum necessary. 2. One who programs enthusiastically (even obsessively) or who enjoys programming rather than just theorizing about programming. 3. A person capable of appreciating hack value. 4. A person who is good at programming quickly. 5. An expert at a particular program, or one who frequently does work using it or on it; as in `a Unix hacker'. (Definitions 1 through 5 are correlated, and people who fit them congregate.) 6. An expert or enthusiast of any kind. One might be an astronomy hacker, for example. 7. One who enjoys the intellectual challenge of creatively overcoming or circumventing limitations. 8. A malicious meddler who tries to discover sensitive information by poking around. Hence `password hacker', `network hacker'."
I proudly classify myself as a hacker. I also would like to note for the record I can't make furniture with an ax for shit :)

This makes you no better than him/her. Defacing others' property.
