Hire is probably a silly word to use. What I mean is find an experienced friend who is willing to help you out, then the load is split.

No worries.

Not that I use EVula forums a lot, but I do use the blog and the email. (I, at least, appreciate what you do, good on ya, mate)

I'd also like to note that I did post a topic in the Imperial Lounge, asking for people to help. Two weeks later, it had garnered a whopping 0 responses (I had 1 IM conversation about it, which hasn't gone anywhere either).

Well, you have a fair point there. I use the blog, and if I had an account with an e-mail, I'd definately use it, but I don't know how to get one. The Empire has always been regarded highly, and I think if assholes try to complain about it, just either ignore the idiots, or link them here, because you've definately gotten your point across well.

I'd definately help out in any way if I could, but I have no knowledge of site upkeeping, nor the money to help support you, so I'm afraid I couldn't help.

I was at the boards when they were hacked..

The script kiddie first deleted all the posts in the boards, then the boards themselves..

Unlike the other two attacks, this time the boards were just deleted, so I'd imagine it wouldn't be too hard to rebuild the site from a backup copy of the database? I'm assuming you still have one from the last attack, right?

way to go and put your foot down on this... but i imagine most people who used the boards will miss them... i sure will.

I have the copy from the last attack (the repaired one that andcarne provided), but I don't want to deal with it, period. I'll be throwing it back up exclusively for data retrieval purposes (I need some data from there, as do a few other people), but I certainly won't be advertising it's existence.

I'll miss the boards too, but not the problems they have caused.

Well done. It's been clear for a while now that this has been dragging you down. To reiterate what everyone else has said: whatever works for you, do it.

I'd also like to make the same query that El Flesh made, though: will it be possible at some point to root through for some of my old posts so that I can archive some of it for my own use?

Chance's are that it will get damaged like the current one if anyone spreads a link, thus I'd say it might not be the greatest idea, though drop me an eMail and I might put it up somewhere....

I am really sorry to see the forums go. I would be willing to run another forum through a free service that I found, it is not as fast or dependable as a pay service but it gets the job done at http://freebb.com/. It is mostly for small personal boards but I have one on there that has more traffic than the lair forums had and like I said, it runs just fine. I can start it or someone else can, but I do and will have ample time to run it for at least the next 2-3 years (probably) if no one else does.

Anyway, it has always seemed like this was a chore to you, I think you made the right decision in dropping it.

FreeBB seems decent, I'll take a look at it

I'd gladly make and admin one for you. I consider myself a good admin, and I do have experience in the matter, owning the Kontik Research Front for a while.

There is no appreciable speed difference from what the lair was except during peak times (about 25 minutes in the evening), it does bog down a bit then; it is still better than some places that I post at for speed with a small board. Like I said, I have one up now and I am having no problems whatsoever with it. It is worth every cent.

Oh, and to anyone who posts in the serious discussion section, I can recommend another forum as a replacement. Simcitycentral.net has a phenomenal serious discussion forum. I find myself vastly outclassed there on a regular basis. Plus, there are some intelligent religious people there for El Flesh to argue with until he's blue in the face.

So, if you get a chance, stop by!

I'm Metro on those forums. They can't replace EVula's forum, as nothing could, but they're good.

Thanks, EVula. Just thought I'd let you know that if you do need any help, I can see what I can do. I don't have too much experience, but I can always learn. In addition, I honestly hope you don't feel any pressure from us about the forums. We know how busy you are, and how crazy things are for you. We all have real lives. And, in the end, real life if much more important than the internet. So, to sum up, don't feel you have to do anything for us. We'll live without the forums. Get your own life sorted out, and make sure it's you and your life that's your first priority. If you can get around to the forums, peachy, but if not, we'll live. Don't push yourself.

*cringes* I was the one that promised to help out with the rants/reviews. I ended up being packed off to Paris which is why I couldn't do any work on it. I also am working on 3 different apps in Java. Regardless, email me if you still need the job done. I'll need access to the forums, but if you can get that set up soon I can go to work tomorrow (screw the sights of Paris! :P ).

Actually, andcarne has proven his badass-ness once again, and has given me all the dates. It's all good. :)
