Iowa Votes Tomorrow

I've said before that I'm an independent, but this time around I'm voting Democratic. Well...

diablo hellfire nocd

It really comes down to who wins the nomination. I'm not going to vote for Bush for President, that's for sure, but some Democrats I just can't support either. On the top of that list is Dean. I just don't like the guy. I could go into the whole politics of the situation, but the simple fact is he wouldn't make a good president in these times. He's also dishonest and secretive. Perhaps the most important* however, is that his whole "internet campaign" thing is insulting to me as a future computer science student. The site is a joke of design, and his "get addresses to write letters" thing was easily exploited by anti-Dean people**. The most grievous sin of all was to count people that can't even vote as supporters. I'm talking about little idealist kids who are easily swayed by Dean's constant flip-flopping. The only reason his internet campaign has appeared to be so successful is because so much can be hidden behind the internet. Do we really know how successful he's been? Most likely he's been over-hyped.

Well, we'll get some indication tomorrow. I just hope Iowa and successive states are smart enough to see past the Dean nonsense and vote for somebody who can actually win against Bush. Clark and Kerry have good chances (and I'd gladly support either one). Most of the others do not.

So here we are. Tomorrow Iowa will make their decision, and things start going ahead pretty quickly after that. My state's not until March 2nd. Hopefully by then Dean is long gone and I'll have someone I can support to vote for. I don't know what I'll do if Dean gets the nomination***.

As it stands, it's a very close race, which is bad news for Dean. He's the "big front runner" and obviously he's either slipping or was never all that great to begin with. Edwards is not my first choice, and neither is Gephardt, but if either one of them or Kerry wins, it will be a happy day indeed for me. Of the top four (and let's be honest, they're the only ones with a chance of winning tomorrow) I'd like to see it come down as Kerry, Gephardt, Edwards, and Dean.

So that's pretty much it. I'll be posting an entry on the caucus system tomorrow. But before I end this, I will leave you all with one closing thought.

Have fun voting!

* Okay, I'm not exactly serious about this one, but I'm still pretty upset about it.
** I was never involved in such activities, I just know of them.
*** Or a couple of the others. I'm not going to mention any of their names, because their chances of winning even a tiny fraction of any state is nil. You know which ones I'm talking about. If you don't, then you just proved my point even more, because they're irrelevant.
