CNET Bandwidth Meter Speed Test
World Editor HackFind out what kind of bandwidth speeds you really get, not just what your ISP tells you. I'd suggest testing several times in a row and averaging the numbers. It also might be a good idea to run the test at several times during the day, as internet traffic in your area may be higher or lower at different times.
Anyway, back home now in Massachusetts, I get about 3 mbps (approximately 3000 kbps).
Enjoy!

I've known about that site for ages, and it has free testing sites around the world with no information entry required. Pick the site closest to you and run a few speed tests. I use this tool all the time.
My peak speed has been 27.2 kbps
I don't see the point in having a 56k modem. Maybe I'll downgrade and make 30 cents profit...
