In case you didn't know, I love soccer. So of course I've been watching the World Cup currently taking place in Germany. I've been able to watch at least part of all but two of the games so far (missed Mexico vs. Iran yesterday and Germany vs. Costa Rica on Friday). Today of course at noon (EST) the United States will play the Czech Republic, and that is a game I will be sure not to miss.
Benny Benassy-IllusionMy job starts on Tuesday so I won't get to see as many games as I might like, but I'm having them taped for viewage when I get home. Anyway, these are very exciting times in the world of soccer.
So far I'm predicting a Brazil vs. Germany final game, but of course anything could happen. I'd like to see the United States reach the semifinals, which would pretty much require them to win their group in the first round (else they face Brazil in the first knock-out match, which is basically suicidal).
Anyway, of the games I've seen so far, the most interesting one was probably Trinidad & Tobago vs. Sweden. A 0-0 tie in that game was certainly unexpected. The second half included a Red Card very early on against Trinidad & Tobago, but the Swedes were still unable to defeat the very low-ranked team. Trinidad & Tobago really stepped it up, pushed on offense, and made some decent attempts at scoring. I wish I had seen the high-scoring Mexican and German victories, but there will certainly be more games to see in the coming weeks.
Woo soccer!
