College Students Don't Always Update Each Day

mrxak.com Desktops

Well, I've been using my own artwork for desktops for a while now, but lately I've been wondering it anybody might like them also. So I've been working on setting up a new part of the site for just such a purpose. Once I have created thumbnails and a webpage to hold them, I should be able to launch it with an initial few. Then, if people seem to like them, I'll add to it every so often with new creations.

Most of the initial offerings will be strange gray objects, with a gray background, and shadow. I think they're pretty neat. I created them in Wings3d by taking fairly normal objects and then beating the heck out of them. Then I brought them over to Bryce 5 to light and render them. I didn't do any texturing, because the contrasts between light reflecting off of the surface and shadowing looked pretty cool on its own. I'm also a pretty big fan of grayscale (although some subtle blues appear in a few).

Any others will be terrain scenery. I'm still not sure which ones to put in yet, since I have a lot of them, and only a few of them are worth sharing. I also have a couple for my yet-unnamed Nova TC, but I don't think I want to release them to the public just yet.

When the site is ready, I think I'll post one of the better ones on EVIG to advertise a bit.

It's Over

My uncle died yesterday afternoon. He lost consciousness the day before, as far as I understand. There will probably be a memorial of some kind in a week or two. Nothing too formal, since that wasn't his way. It's a relief that he isn't suffering anymore, but we're all going to miss him.

Well, I'm Back, But...

I'm back from vacation. However, as soon as I got back I found out that my uncle has incurable cancer, and has only a few days left. It was only discovered last Thursday, and word only reached us yesterday. Kinda puts a damper on things, to say the least. I'm not sure when I'll get around to posting anything else here for a while. I'm sure you understand, and I'd appreciate you keeping him and our family in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks.

Just So You Know...

I'm leaving today to start my vacation in California. I'll be at Yosemite and Sequoia with my parents. I will resume my blog entries on the 21th or so. I'll also be writing some stuff down while I'm there and type up entries for all of the days I've missed, based on what I've done on my vacation. Be sure to go back and read those entries in the archives, because they won't all be on the front page.

See you later!

Aftermath

Note: Despite the time this was posted, I'm actually going to talk about "future" events.

Well. I graudated. It took longer to walk around the town green (and then wait for the music to be at the right spot and who knows what else) than I was expecting. Luckily by the time I finally got to my seat things went quickly. The speeches were abysmal, except for one by the class president. One was essentially a history lesson, and had nothing at all to do with us or our graduation. One was a story about a kid getting hit by a car, and what boiled down to an administrative announcement about the school (unrelated). The other speech given by a student started off by saying she wouldn't generalize about our class, then proceeding to do so. Another speech was just boring and pointless. The good speech, although not memorable, was at least slightly entertaining.

Afterwards we got our diplomas, and fought through the crowds to get to a reception at a nearby building. The food was pretty bad, but the drinks weren't. Then we grabbed our stuff and jumped on some buses (real ones, not school buses) and headed off to our secret class trip. We weren't told where we were going, so a lot of guesses were thrown around as we saw what highways we were on, etc.
